About Us
The Coniston Shooting Ground is run by a team of experienced and qualified shooting instructors headed up by Peter Manley.
Peter, who joined the team several years ago, has had a life long appreciation of both game and clay shooting and brought with him a wealth of business experience.
Martin Cooper is our resident layout expert who specialises in creating challenging but fair sports traps. Sporting layouts are changed every two weeks to continually test our members and visitors.
Other members of the team are all experienced and qualified instructors with a passion for shooting.
We cater for all levels of experience. For the beginner we supply a gun, safety instruction and an instructor to allow you to gain a sound grounding in the shooting skills. We aim to get everyone hitting at least 50% of clays so even the most novice shooter can be surprised by their ability.
A 40-clay lesson usually lasts around an hour and half and costs just £55.
For the more experienced or expert shots we provide challenging layouts to test and improve your shooting skills.
We offer a range of shooting disciplines for members and non-members alike. These include:
Sporting
Heading down through the woodland our sporting traps offer a range of targets. The clays simulate high birds, rabbits or springing teal to name but a few and include the targets being quartered, driven and coming overhead. For game shooters we have recently added an 86 foot tower which houses several traps from which high birds are thrown.
Game shooters can practice on an oscillating trap, driven grouse, and simulated partridge all year round and in particular in preparation for the shooting season.
Compaq
Our Compaq traps combine six traps and give single, on report and simultaneous pairs.
Up to 5 people at one time can compete against each other.
- Down the line
Is one of the oldest of the shooting disciplines. There are five firing positions shooting five cartridges from each. - Skeet
One of the most popular disciplines, two shots are fired horizontally across the range from two different sized housings. - Flush
We have recently added a Pro-matic Huntsman Game Machine which allows up to 5 shooters work together to hit as many clays as possible. A great way to round up your time at the ground, the flush will exhilerate your group and challenge your shooting skills and best of all the whole group will just have great fun.
